Get rid of wrinkles, reduce the signs of ageing, sagging skin or sun spots, and enhance your facial features. At Geoplasty Plastic Surgery we offer the most up-to-date and reliable facelift treatments and techniques for men and women, which ensure a younger and more natural look.
What a facelift is
As time goes by, the muscles around the face become loose and the skin becomes less supple, resulting in folds and wrinkles.
The conventional facelift or rytectomy lifts and repositions the face and neck tissues to the desired place.
It is the ideal choice for women and men wishing to regain their lost youthful and natural appearance.
How a facelift is performed
There are different facelift techniques. We use the High SMAS facelift technique. The procedure is usually performed under general anaesthesia, while in milder cases it may be performed with twilight anaesthesia. A preoperative check-up is performed before the procedure.
A traditional facelift incision begins from the sideburns, continues around the ear and ends in the occipital region of the scalp.
The skin is carefully separated from the underlying tissue, excess skin is trimmed away, and the muscles and connective tissue (fascia) are repositioned.
The skin is redraped without excess tension, offering a natural result. The incisions are closed with absorbable sutures.
What happens after the procedure
Following the facelift procedure, you must stay in hospital overnight.
As the anaesthesia wears off, we will be giving you intravenous painkillers, which offer you relief from any pain or discomfort you might feel.
To ensure a full and unimpeded recovery, we will provide you with detailed information on what you need to be doing during the days and weeks following the procedure.
When you are able to return home, you will need somebody to accompany you.
What the possible complications of a facelift are
Postoperative haematoma is the most common complication seen in the facelift surgery and it is fully manageable. You may also experience numbness, which may last for a few weeks or even months.
There is no particular pain, while, in rare cases, infection or hypertrophic scars may develop, which disappear over time.
What other procedures a facelift may be combined with
A facelift may be combined with a neck lift in the same surgical procedure, as the tissue of the neck is a continuation of the facial tissue.
