What a neck lift is
The neck is the first area of your body that usually shows signs of ageing. The skin sags and the muscles lose their volume and strength, creating deep horizontal lines/wrinkles. In other cases, the signs of ageing become even more prominent with fat deposits. As a result, you may look older than your age.
The neck lift restores sagging tissue, bringing it back to the position it was 10-15 years ago. It also defines the bony lower jawline and achieves a 90° neck/chin angle.
How a neck lift is performed
The procedure is usually performed under general anaesthesia, while in milder cases it may be performed with twilight anaesthesia. A preoperative check-up is performed before the procedure.
The neck lift incisions start behind the ear and continue into the scalp. The aim of this procedure is to prepare the tissue in layers, distribute the internal structures, especially the muscle, in a way that the firmness and the shape of the neck are restored.
In some case, liposuction of the excess fat from the neck may be performed, especially the double chin, depending on your needs.
If you smoke, you will need to quit smoking up to 3 weeks before the procedure.
What happens after the procedure
Following the neck lift procedure, you must stay in hospital overnight.
For several days after the neck lift, it is important to keep your head elevated at all times, even at night. You must also wear a compression bandage for best recovery.
Approximately 2 weeks after the surgical procedure, most of the discomfort will have subsided.

Possible but rare adverse reactions of the neck lift are haematoma and possibly transient numbness.
