Get rid of unsightly spots and blemishes once and for all, painlessly and safely. At Geoplasty Plastic Surgery, we offer pigmentation treatment with state-of-the-art IPL laser and we propose additional procedures, depending on your needs.
What is pigmentation
Pigmentation (spots, blemishes, freckles, etc.) is the typical discolouration caused by excess melanin production (hyperpigmentation). It develops mainly in women, but also men who live in areas with intense sunlight, such as Greece.
They may appear at any age and on any part of the skin. However, they appear more frequently on the face (cheeks, forehead, upper lip, chin) and on the neck, as well as on parts of the body more exposed to solar radiation (shoulders, cleavage, hands).
Solar radiation is considered one of the most important factors for their development. Specifically, systematic and chronic sun exposure, combined with non-continuous or inadequate sun protection, as well as ageing, may lead to their rapid spread.
Other burdening factors are hereditary predisposition and hormonal imbalances or disorders, such as pregnancy, menopause, polycystic ovaries and use of contraceptives, antidepressants, cortisone or other medications.
During your visit, Dr Georgopoulos will assess the causes of hyperpigmentation, the nature and the extent of your skin lesions, as well as your expectations, in order to determine the ideal treatment for you.
How IPL laser for spots/blemishes is performed
IPL laser treatment provides an immediate and permanent solution for treating unsightly blemishes, spots, freckles as well as benign coloured skin lesions.
During treatment of blemishes and spots with IPL laser, an accurate dose of light energy is channelled where needed, in order to discolour and, by extension, eradicate them.
It is a state-of-the-art device that offers targeted treatment, without damaging surrounding tissue, provided, however, that it is used by a specialist.
During the procedure, the pain is minimal and well tolerated because the therapeutic laser has a special cooling system. However, you can request anaesthetic lotion to be applied.
During the discolouration treatment, and after completing it, you should avoid exposure to sunlight and use sun protection regularly.
After concluding treatment, Dr Georgopoulos and the professional staff of Geoplasty Plastic Surgery will give you specific instructions about preventing, to the extent possible, new blemishes and spots in the future.
What areas of the body it is indicated for
IPL laser treatment for spots/blemishes may be applied on all parts of the body.
How long the treatment lasts
Session duration: 15 to 20 minutes
Number of sessions: 1-2 (+1 one more month after for dark or deep scars)
You may get back to your daily activities, but you should definitely use sun protection on the areas that were treated and avoid sun exposure.
What the results of IPL laser for spots/blemishes treatment are
IPL laser for spots/blemishes treatment is absolutely safe and:
- Ensures effective eradication of pigmentation.
- Evens out skin tone.
- Offers a more youthful look.
New pigmentation may appear in the future, which would inevitably appear anyway. So, it is important after the treatment to be careful and not to be exposed to anything that may lead to new development of spots and blemishes.
What the possible complications of IPL laser treatment are
In the first 2 hours, there is a chance that a burning sensation may develop around the parts that were treated.
The colour of the parts that were treated gets a little darker, but this is corrected in the next 5 days.
After a few days, a scab is formed, which subsides 1-2 weeks after treatment.
What other treatments can IPL laser be combined with
For the treatment of hyperpigmentation disorders, we may use other methods, separately or combined and supplementary to IPL laser, such as:
- Special whitening treatment/lotions, primarily aiming at prevention.
- Chemical peeling, which is quite effective, especially when the discolouration is superficial.
On your first appointment, the doctor will diagnose your needs and, based on these, will formulate a Geoplasty Signature Treatment plan tailored to your needs. He will select the suitable combination of treatments that can offer you the desired result without affecting one another, and eventually improve your face.
Additionally, we organise a Beauty Day every 2 months for selected clients:
- We analyse your skin using a special device.
- We create individualised pharmaceutical cosmetic products by Universkin, especially for pigmentation treatment.
