A chemical peel is a very common and non-invasive procedure that can be carried out quickly and safely at the Geoplasty Center. The purpose of a chemical peel is to remove damaged surface skin to expose the fresh and healthy skin underneath. The Geoplasty Center carries out chemical peels regularly and the procedure results in no more than a tingling on the skin. People suited to chemical peels include those who have rough or dry skin, marks or blemishes, dull complexion or an uneven skin texture.
A chemical peel is often applied to the face but can just as easily be used to treat the neck, hands and chest to deliver healthier looking skin and a more youthful appearance. Where the peel is applied will of course depend on the patient, and this is something Dr. Georgopoulos will be happy to advise you on during consultation.
Before the chemical peel is applied, the treatment area will be cleansed with an antibacterial agent. The doctor will then apply an even solution of chemical to the affected area for 10 to 20 minutes. After the peel is removed, the treated area is cleansed again.
The treatment is largely painless, although there may be a slight stinging sensation.
After the Peeling
After the chemical peel is removed, the skin will start to flake as the old skin is removed and the new later of skin starts to take its place. For most chemical peels no additional treatment is needed, but a deep chemical peel might require an ointment to be prescribed. You will be able to return to normal activity immediately after the peel is removed. However, you should avoid exposure to the sun as your skin will be more sensitive after the treatment.
There are no side effects expected with a chemical peel. Sometimes there will be a slight redness to the skin, but this will not last long.
Staff at the Geoplasty Center will advise you on the best ways to maintain your skin health and appearance after the treatment.
